Sopistry

Meaning: Providing sops to win elections under the pretext of a loftier cause.
Pronunciation: Sop-piss-tree.
Usage: The Food Security Bill type of sopistry won't cut ice with the aam aadmi. He'll take what comes his way and vote for someone else.
Root: Sop (anything given to pacify) + Sophistry (fallacious argument).
